Hibachi in the Dominican Republic

For our anniversary dinner my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Silk City Hibachi Grill which is located within the aptly-named, breathtaking, “Breathless Resort” in Punta Cana, Republico Dominico. The experience was a lot of fun, the food was amazing, and it was a fitting way to celebrate four wonderful years of wedded bliss. We had eaten at the restaurant a few nights earlier, but not at the hibachi grill. Thankfully, on the evening of our anniversary we had a reservation that allowed us to enjoy all the festivities that come with eating right at the grill with the chef.

The evening was amazing. For starters, and completely unrelated to the food, our Hibachi chef looked and acted very much like the R&B performer Chris Brown. That was just a fun little touch to the evening. As for the food itself we were treated to freshly-cooked beef, chicken, rice and mixed vegetables. I am not much of a meat eater as the majority of the time I eat a vegetarian diet, but even as an occasional meat-eater I thoroughly enjoyed the culinary combination of meats and veggies that our chef carried straight from his grill to our plates. His performance as our chef was very exciting and fun, and the atmosphere of multiple Hibachi chefs enjoying their preparations while entertaining their individual tables at the same time made our environment for the evening wonderfully festive.

All in all we spent about an hour with our chef drinking wine and martinis while he prepared the food and we eventually consumed it. There were eight people in our group, all adults and most of us were strangers to one another. Although we weren’t very conversational, it was fun to enjoy a meal with new people. Unlike all the other restaurants at the Breathless Resort, Silk City requires a reservation. If you are at the resort for any number of days, it is well worth taking a few minutes to schedule an evening visit to this exciting and entertaining dining experience.
