Happy Hour in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary this year on a hidden beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Our adventure began when we caught a bus that was provided as part of our package from our resort and were whisked away on a 40-minute journey to Playa Cabeza del Toro. Once there we boarded a spacious catamaran that would usher us out into the ocean and on to the hidden location. The beach that we departed from was absolutely beautiful. It was covered in exquisite white sand and palm trees; and while there we were fortunate to be graced with a very cooling breeze that create a highly picturesque vibe.

We waited there on the beach for about twenty minutes before boarding our yacht. Once aboard we were afforded an open bar, on-board entertainment and a short stop along the way for snorkeling and viewing the local aquatic life. I partook in the latter while Meeks stayed onboard and enjoyed the DJ and open bar. Although I spent most of that first stop splashing around in the water near the boat and screaming the adult equivalent of, "look what I can do," to Meeks; I did make my way out to the deep, salty waters of the Atlantic Ocean for a few minutes to view the fish and coral beneath.

After roughly twenty minutes of snorkeling, we boarded the boat again and headed to more shallow waters. Upon arrival at the hidden beach we both exited the boat and were able to enjoy each other's company while consuming drinks and floating around in the warm, shallow water of the Atlantic Ocean. There were four different boats (including ours) on the beach while we were there which created a fun and upbeat party vibe. We didn't mingle with the people on the other boats, but we could see and hear the good times they were having as well. This hidden location was beautiful, extremely photogenic, and the perfect mix of exclusion and inclusion with the few other people who were there.

On our ride back to Playa Cabeza del Toro we were treated to a mini-show filled with dancing on the deck of the boat (of which we participated), and special recognition of the celebrations that were taking place onboard including our wedding anniversary. It was an excellent excursion away from the resort; one that I would encourage you to partake in if you find yourself in Punta Cana. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at 21c Museum and Hotel over the weekend, located right in the heart of downtown Chicago. The hotel itself was beautiful, and likewise was the artwork contained therein.

The museum really did exceed my expectations as much of the work was exce...[continue]

We Made it to Motown!

You all know that we weren't going to be this close to the original home of Motown and not make the detour to see it. Unfortunately, the Motown museum is closed for renovation and expansion so we couldn't go in, but it was still really cool to the house that launched the carries of Stevie Wo...[continue]
